3-pronged, green-purple flowerheads resemble a "turkey foot" (another name for this grass) on tall stems above dense clumps of arching blue-green leaves. A most characteristic species of the tall-grass prairie. Well-drained to wet soil.

I like this grass and it does well in my small yard. It does not produce very many baby plants each year, so it is very easy to control. I hardly ever water it and the soil is not amended, so it stays under six feet for me. Keeps it shape fairly well although stems of the seed heads arch outward from the plant quite a bit. Much of it disappears for the winter except for the base of dried leaves. Have nothing but praise for this grass...
